Arne Slot High Intensity Training Exercises

With heavy speculation that Arne Slot will replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield next season, what better way to prepare for his potential arrival to the Premier League than dedicating a full MSC Breakdown to his training exercises. With the ultra aggressive style of play over the years, Klopp has built a reputation of high tempo sessions and it seems that Arne Slot has a very similar profile on the training ground. Although it's impossible to know everything about a coach by watching a selection of training sessions online, it is always interesting to do a little research and see what stands out. In this Breakdown we find some unique ways to adapt exercises for a specific reason, plus a consistent theme throughout.

Four Team Transfer Rondo

  • Eight players are split into four teams

  • Exercises takes place inside a two 10x10 yard grids with a 5-yard median (where two mannequins are positioned)

  • One team starts as the defensive team (in red) and one team starts in the other grid

  • Game starts with a 4v2 where the possession team are looking to get 5 consecutive passes and then transfer the ball across through the mannequins

  • When the ball is transferred, the bottom pair must go across to support and the pressing team remains on defensive duty

  • If the defensive team win the ball, they switch roles immediately

6 (+2) v 4 Possession Game

  • Exercise takes place in a 20x30 yard area with four mini-goals

  • Possession team is organized around the perimeter with one target player in each end-line and two wide players on either side

  • Two neutral players start in the middle

  • Four defensive players start in the middle also

  • The objective is for the red team to use the overload and maintain possession in a 8v4 situation. They are awarded one point for every five consecutive passes.

  • The defensive team are continually pressing and looking to regain the ball to score in any of the mini-goals

11v11 Three Goal Game

  • Exercise takes place in a 50x60 yard area with three goals

  • Teams play 11v11 but possession team have an extra goalkeeper

  • Possession team (in blue) can score in central goal

  • Defensive team (in red) are looking to regain possession and score in either of the wide goals
