The first MSC Virtual High School Coaches Conference took place on Saturday, January 8th, aimed at specifically at coaches working with high school aged players (14-18 years old). The goal of the one-day event was for coaches to get a toolkit of resources that they could use for the high school season. We had twelve outstanding presenters sharing their insights into specific aspects of the game including science, training, skill development, culture, goalkeeping, and analysis.
Below are a list of the Presenters:
Cody Royle - Author of the outstanding leadership books, ‘The Tough Stuff’ and ‘Where Others Won't’. He works individually with elite head coaches on maximizing their potential and He also spent. six years as the Head Coach of Canada's national men's AFL program, which competes in international fixtures around the world, and at the tri-annual AFL International Cup.
Donna Fishter - As a Leadership Coach and Team Architect, Donna works alongside coaches and athletes at all levels and is consulting with teams in multiple sports. She has coached soccer for over 25 years at the youth, high school & college levels. She spent 13 years at University of Central Florida and helped build UCF into an NCAA Division One Top 25 program.
Nicole Sudurkya - Nicole is the current Director of Rehabilitation at Tacoma Reign (NWSL). As a former Division I player at St. John’s, she is passionate about bridging the gap between rehabilitation and performance training and finding ways to make sports medicine and performance research more applicable to the clinic, weight room, and field.
Todd Beane - No stranger to the soccer coaching community, Todd is the founder of TOVO Academy Barcelona with the aim of developing a new generation of intelligent players and capable coaches. His passion has always been and continues to be holistic development and learner-centered coaching.
Clifton Bush - Clifton is a NWSL assistant coach, most recently with Racing Louisville FC. He has the unique ability to blend the analysis and scouting side of the game with the technical aspects of coaching. As a USSF 'A' Licensed Coach, Clifton has extensive experience at the college level, working as a head coach at UNC Asheville at Division I, as well as assistant roles at Cal State Bakersfield and Dominican University.
Oliver Gage - Olly is the Director of Football for the Candian Professional League. As an analyst he has worked with Sheffield Wednesday, University of Virginia, Houston Dynamo in MLS. He is also the founder of CoachTech Soccer, a coach and player education platform that provides an evidence-based approach to the game ensuring coaches, train and think a little about the game in depth and detail.
Bri Brown - Bri is the current Strength and Conditioning Coach at Pitt Women's Basketball. Prior to her arrival at Pitt, Bri was the Director of High Performance for the Racing Louisville FC of the (NWSL). While in Louisville, Brown was responsible for implementing and developing all aspects of individual player and team strength, conditioning, mobility, readiness and recovery sessions.
Nate Lie - As the head coach of Xavier University, Nate led the team to a recent 16-1-1 record this season and an 8th-placed national ranking in Division I, winning their second Big East conference title. Their first title made program history in 2019 and Nate has made an immediate impact there, turning them into a national powerhouse in less than three years.
Lindsay Basalgya - Lindsay is the founder of Competitive Edge Institute, working with coaches and teams on building, improving and maximizing their own environments. With eighteen years of experience in the game, she has worked at the Division I college level with Eastern Kentucky University and Bowling Green University.
Sergio Gonzalez - Representing the goalkeeper union for this conference, Sergio is the current goalkeeper coach for Racing Louisville (NWSL). He has also extensive experience at the college level, working with Indiana University, Ohio State, and NJIT programs respectively. He has also coached on the international level, working with goalkeepers for the U.S. U-16 and U-17 National Teams.
Manny Martins - Manny is the current head coach of Utah State University and a former assistant coach with UCLA and University of Oregon. He has also worked with the U.S. women’s national team since 2013 and was an analyst and opposition scout during the women’s 2019 FIFA World Cup Championship run.
Gary Curneen - Gary is the founder of Modern Soccer Coach and a current assistant coach with Racing Louisville FC in NWSL. As a UEFA 'A' Licensed coach he has also worked at the college level in both head coach and assistant coach roles. Gary is the author of Modern Soccer Coach books and host of the MSC Podcast.
