Yesterday Joey Lombradi presented. Without a doubt, game models are the most discussed aspect of coaching at the moment, with coaches looking for more information about how to go about the process of building theirs. In my personal opinion, one of the greatest challenges for a young coach is how to differentiate yourself in this process. The majority of us want to play the game in a similar way, so there are not a lot of variations you can draw from the four moments themselves. The difference makers is then in the detail, delivery, and in the environment created around the model. This is where I think Joey does an outstanding job in this presentation. He describes how a game model can be tiered in age groups and how tactical understanding can be structured and developed. Another aspect that I enjoyed was the flexibility piece, not just tactically in terms of the understanding of different systems, but also the benefits in development of a player going into a college or professional environment and being able to thrive. Unfortunately we ran out of time towards the end, but Joey has kindly agreed to come back on and discuss this model further.
