Jack Brazil - Improving Individuals in a Team Session

Updated: Oct 24, 2020

Yesterday, Jack Brazil, who works as U12 Head Coach at Norweigan professional club Vålerenga, presented on session design and how to improve individuals and units within the context of a team training. Jack has worked across 7 different countries in 3 continents, including a successful stint in the Cayman Premier League. I really enjoyed how Jack built in his own journey to his presentation and where he has moved in terms of his philosophy and methodology.

The level of detail in Jack's presentation definitely stood out. Coaching is a very deliberate process at Vålerenga and I really enjoyed how Jack followed up his aims and objectives with diagrams and videos of what it actually looks like on the grass. Connecting the theory to the practice is so important when we are looking to gain an insight of different cultures and Jack did a great job of facilitating this. His club is also going through a unique period with players resuming training after COVID break, so it was interesting to hear his perspective on things that the club are doing from a number of levels to ease that transition. Overall, I think here are a number of ways this presentation could be enjoyed: the journey of a coach, the evolution of a philosophy, the culture of a club, holistic youth development outlook, and then of course, merging all these complex processes together with young players.
